This week, I have been mostly adding to my short story about Katherine.
It is still untitled, and probably will remain so until it is finished. I am
liking being able to write about the same characters for a long period of time,
as usually I write very short pieces so cannot fully explore the characters.
However this story is getting quite long, for me, and I am enjoying being able
to continue writing from the same character’s point of view, and about the
other character’s in the story. It provides a sense of comfort to know who I am
coming back to. One of the pieces of feedback that I received was that I needed
to add context, such as the W’s (When? Who? Why? Etc.) But my character, at
this point in the story, doesn’t really know any of these things so I was
finding it hard to find a way to include them, as it was from Katherine’s
perspective.
As well as this, I was experimenting with ideas for the short story
competition. I firstly decided to use an existing story and change the ending
with a ‘twist’, but I could not think of a story that I wanted to use. I
scrapped that idea, and tried to think of a new story that I could explore in
only one hundred words, which I found a task. After rereading the short story
that I originally wrote, I decided that it didn’t build up enough for the twist
at the end, so I wrote another. I need to get some feedback for it, as I am not
sure if it works well.
My quote of the week this week is:
“I don’t have super powers,
there’s no magic spell. But I remain faithful for things to go well. I’m not
looking for miracles, at least for today. I know I’ve got what it takes.”- I’ve
Got What It Takes- by Alex Day
This song was helping to inspire me to write, as I wasn’t really doing
much before.
